Working as a Technical Writer since past 10 years, I have seen the industry evolve from being a very DITA-centric closed group of documentation experts to startups that don’t want to wade through the details of DITA-OT and other integrations and want the results now!

I am proud to have been part of the journey from XML editing and complex DITA publishing systems to understanding nuances of creating simple, collaborative, and faster to market documentation setups.

SENIOR TECHNICAL WRITER, PROTEGRITY USA, MUMBAI

Maintain and organize documentation for Protegrity Documentation Suite with a special focus on DSG component of the product. Contribute to restructuring, optimizing, and improving the core product documentation set. Responsible for editorial review for documentation generated by other writers. Contributing to blue wash (initialization of DITA efforts) to convert legacy word documents to DITA. Participate in the day-to-day Agile processes and scrum work assigned as part of the release planning. Performing UAT (limited to reviewing tooltips and errors for DSG). Mentoring junior writers to write better and help them develop their technical writing skills.

Managing information development requirements for the BPM India team, which includes creating documentation, technotes, and release notes.

Information Development Activities –

Creating technical documents such as development guides, how-to guides, installation guides, and release notes using Arbortext Editor. Working on internal DCF tool to create Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) document for WebSphere Industry Content Packs. Reviewing documents using integrated Acrocheck tool and in MS Word for technical accuracy and grammatical errors. Using the internal iDOC online reviewing tool for maintaining review comments. Localization Activities –

Responsible for using IBM IDWB internal tool for packaging translation Information units and shipping them for translation. Responsible for communication with translation vendors and communicating via TCT internal IBM communication tool with translators. Co-ordinate with translation leads for different countries for timely return of translated content and organization of these IUs. Estimate the word counts and difference in word counts for the IUs sent for translation. Project Management Activities –

Was part of internal Mind mapping tool project named Mindsearch Part of the internal IBM social media group BlueIQ and responsible for spreading awareness about the social collaboration tools in IBM under Lotus. Responsible for creating user guides for HP iPAQ handsets using Arbortext Editor. Also, worked on creation of multiple guides for different HP iPAQ accessories using Adobe FrameMaker (unstructured).

Worked on Adobe Acrobat Pitstop plug-in to edit PDF documents and modify them by adding crop marks, graphics, color variations, etc. Work in co-ordination with Localization team (generation of part number and maintaining a link between writing and localization) Interaction with clients on a day to day basis and worked as an acting Team lead.
